Wellesley, MA — May 15, 2019 — Heidi Aaronson, DMD, has been named one of the 2019 “40 Under 40” by Incisal Edge dental lifestyle magazine, which recognizes America’s finest young practitioners for their achievements in dentistry.

The Incisal Edge “40 Under 40,” released today, will be celebrated June 6 and 7 in the NoMad district of Manhattan. Honorees will be featured in the fall print and digital editions of the magazine. The complete list of this year’s winners is featured at: IncisalEdgeMagazine.com

"I am honored to be selected for this prestigious award and to be recognized for my hard work and my passion for dentistry. I love what I do and I continue to strive to provide my patients with the best dental treatment available" — Dr. Heidi Aaronson

"The sheer volume of nominations has grown to a point where we could no longer narrow our honorees to just 40," said Chuck Cohen, founder of Incisal Edge. "As doctors strive for greater excellence in every aspect of practice—from cutting-edge clinical expertise to innovative entrepreneurship to remarkable patient environments—it became necessary to provide more opportunities to recognize their important achievements. That's a great problem for dentistry to have."

Fortunately, these professionals are used to a feverish pace. Their itinerary at a whirlwind event this summer in New York City includes an exclusive high fashion photo shoot, and a celebration of all that they have achieved thus far in their professional careers. Honorees will take a well-deserved break from the rigors of medicine and receive the red-carpet treatment by magazine staff, and a team of stylists assembled by Forbes, including renowned style director Joseph DeAcetis. The photography portfolio they create will serve as the centerpiece of the magazine’s fall issue.

Published by Benco Dental since 1997, Incisal Edge celebrates dentists’ achievements both inside the operatory and during their hard-earned downtime — and nothing better exemplifies this than the magazine’s annual 40 Under 40 edition, a series of informative profiles of the finest young practitioners in the profession. Renowned for their medical innovations, volunteer work and philanthropy or a commitment to outstanding patient care, these 80 honorees— nominated by industry experts from around the country and vetted by an independent panel — represent the best of dentistry today, and the promise of even better dentistry tomorrow.

Dr. Heidi Inducted as Fellow into American College of Dentists

Dr. Heidi Aaronson has been named a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the oldest major honorary organization for dentists. Only about 3.5 percent of dentists in the United States have been granted fellowship in recognition of their contributions to organized dentistry, oral health care, dental research, dental education, the profession, and society. Aaronson was inducted into the College on October 19 in Atlanta.

A second-generation dentist, Aaronson has been in private practice with her father, Dr. Nathan Birnbaum, at New Generation Dental Center in Wellesley, Massachusetts, since 2008. Aaronson is a graduate of Newton South High School, received her B.A. at Northwestern University, and her doctorate at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where she served as a clinical instructor in prosthodontics and operative dentistry from 2009 to 2012.

In 2006, Aaronson partnered with the Boston Red Sox to create Tooth Day at Fenway, which has since become an annual public health event at Fenway Park aimed at increasing awareness of the dangers of chewing tobacco and the risks of oral cancer. In addition, she has organized a dental mission trip to the Dominican Republic and volunteered with several local organizations to provide free dental care to Holocaust survivors, as well as women and children living in poverty in the Boston area. She also works regularly with the military to screen and treat soldiers about to be deployed.

Sought out by companies across the world for her expertise on the topic of custom sports mouthwear, Aaronson has lectured at dental conferences on the topics of sports dentistry and dental technology and has published articles in several dental journals, covering topics ranging from custom mouthguards to 3D digital impressions. She is also a contributing author to two dental textbooks.
